Description:
This workshop guides therapists through the process of resolving relationship injuries commonly resulting from the discovery or disclosure of infidelity.  The presentation reviews assessment and stabilization protocols for conjoint treatment, including contraindications and their limitations. Further, it provides practice-focused instruction in the use of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to resolve attachment injuries and rebuild trust. Demonstration and video examples are used to illustrate the EFT treatment approach. 

The workshop is offered in a one- or two-day format. The first day offers the instruction and practice opportunities. An optional second day is devoted to consultation on cases presented by participants, offered for the benefit of the participating group.

Presenters: 
James L. Furrow, PhD is the Evelyn and Frank Freed Professor of Marital and Family Therapy at the Fuller Graduate School of Psychology, Pasadena, California.  His published work includes: The Emotionally Focused Therapy Casebook: New Directions in Couple TreatmentBecoming an Emotionally Focused Therapist: The WorkbookPreparing for Marriage, anEmotionally Focused Couple Therapy for Dummies.  His research and clinical interests focus on the EFT for couples and families, process and outcome research in couple therapy, and positive youth development.  He is a clinical fellow and approved supervisor of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and a Certified Family Life Educator.  Dr. Furrow is a Certified EFT Therapist, Supervisor and Trainer, and founding Executive Director of the Los Angeles Center for Emotionally Focused Therapy.  

Lisa Palmer-Olsen, PsyD is a licensed marriage and family therapist in San Diego California. She is a Certified EFT Trainer and Supervisor and is a Founder and one of the Directors of the Emotionally Focused Couples Training and Research Institute at Alliant International University.  Dr. Palmer-Olsen’s primary clinical and research interests are in the areas of couple and family therapy; specifically with those couples and families dealing with trauma and attachment related struggles. She is an AAMFT clinical member and approved AAMFT supervisor.

Dr. Palmer-Olsen is also co-founder and clinic director for the Alliant Couple and Family Clinic (ACFC), San Diego-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit therapy clinic. The ACFC specializes in family and couple therapy offering individual and group counseling sessions for military and all clients in distressed relationships.
