The Low Income Clinic

Affordable Therapy for Those with Limited Finances

Through this program, Samaritan Center of Puget Sound provides counseling and mental health services for individuals, couples and families whose limited income keeps them from being able to access quality care. The therapists who meet with clients are are trained at a master's degree level and are in the process of meeting the requirements for Washington state licensure. As Clinic providers, they receive additional training and supervision from experienced Samaritan Center therapists. The program is overseen by Dr. Bill Collins, Director of Training and Operations.

Why Did We Create a Low Income Clinic?

This program was created in 1994 with two goals in mind: the provision of counseliing and mental health services for those with extremely limited incomes and, at the same time, offering a program of supervision and training for therapists who had completed their academic training and were working toward state licensure. Clinic providers receive supervision of their work with clients by experienced clinicians and particpate in regular consultation and training opportunities.

The Clinic’s fee scale is designed to meet the needs of very low income clients, offering quality therapy services at a fee that is well below the cost of service. In the past year, 3,721 hours of counseling were provided through the Low Income Clinic and, in these difficult economic times, we continue to see the need for these services increase.
